Helicogloea farinacea (syn .: Saccoblastia farinacea ) is a species of fungus from the family of Phleogenaceen . The species was placedin the genus Saccoblastia by MA Donk . The fruiting bodies of holarctic common type are white to yellowish, resupinat and recall flour heap. The fungus grows saprobion table on dead branches of deciduous and coniferous trees .

Macroscopic features

The fruiting body of Saccoblastia farinacea appears as a flaky or granular floury carpet on the surface of its substrate. The hymenium is whitish-cream to yellow-ocher, sometimes with a pink tint. The fruit bodies can reach a length of 2 cm and a thickness of 0.5 mm.

Microscopic features

The spores of the species are hyaline , broadly elliptical and measure 11–19 × 8–12  µm . The hyphae form germ tubes or secondary spores with a size of 10–12 × 8–12 µm. The probasidia are sack-shaped, laterally hanging and have thin walls.

Saccoblastia farinacea has been found in North America as well as in Europe eastward to Finland and Estonia .

ecology

Saccoblastia farinacea grows saprobion table on alder ( Alnus spp.), Beech ( Fagus spp.), Poplar ( Populus spp.) And willow ( Salix ) as well as on fir ( Abies spp.), Spruce ( Picea spp.) And pine ( Pinus spp .) .). Usually the fruiting bodies can be found on dead upper branches of the trees. In Baden-Württemberg all known sites were between 90 and 575 m above sea level.
