Sacred 3

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sacred 3 is an action role-playing game for Windows , PlayStation 3 , Xbox 360 . It is the fourth release in the Sacred series and the first in the main series to be developed by Keen Games . The game was released by Deep Silver in Europe on August 1st, 2014.

action

The plot of the game was mostly classified as unimportant by critics. It builds on the narrative of the previously published offshoot Sacred Citadel . The villain Zane, ruler of the Ashen empire, tries to become a demigod with the help of an artifact called the Heart of Ancaria. But the Seraphim, the ancient peacekeepers of Ancaria, have hidden it in a safe place. To achieve his goal, Zane allies with demons and opens the gates to the underworld. After Zane, as shown in Sacred Citadel , has hunted down the Seraphim and almost destroyed it, a group of heroes under the leadership of the player character stands in his way to prevent him from completing his plans.

Gameplay

The game deviates significantly from the gameplay of its two predecessors and dispenses with some of the common game functions of contemporary action role-playing games. Instead of an open game world, Sacred 3 is based on linear successive levels. The focus is on action-packed group fights, which can be fought either with AI- controlled companions or in co-op mode with human players. The usual collection of loot , however, has been completely given up, instead the characters only collect experience points and gold, which can be invested in the purchase of new equipment and character development at the end of a game segment. There is a choice of four characters or five in the so-called First Edition of the game.

development

Sacred 3 is the first part of the main series, which was developed under the direction of Deep Silver. The original developer Ascaron filed for bankruptcy in 2009. In the same year the company was broken up. Deep Silver, which already acted as the publisher of the predecessor Sacred 2 , then took over the rights to the role-playing game series. The development of Sacred 3 was announced at Gamescom in 2010 , when the studio Keen Games was commissioned by Deep Silver as the developer.

The reviews of the game were mostly negative in view of the series tradition. The PC Games titled Sacred 3 as the "low point of the series", 4Players spoke of the slaughter of the "sacred heifer". According to Golem.de , the game is "not a role-playing game, but rather an action title with role-playing elements". The fights are entertaining and the graphics are well done. Due to the strong deviations from the game principle of the predecessor, the game seems greatly simplified and apart from the name and the Seraphim as a possible player character, it has little in common with the earlier titles in the series. Mathias Oertel from 4Players compared the gameplay with game series like Dynasty Warriors , Skylanders and Golden Ax , which he rated as more entertaining compared to Sacred 3 .

The playful deviations announced in advance meant that former Sacred developers around the former project manager and series creator Franz Stradal announced a crowdfunding project entitled Unsacred: Back into the Ashes . The game should be based on the properties of its predecessor. A short time after the announcement, the project was renamed Unbended , according to the developers for legal reasons, about which the parties had agreed not to disclose . The reason for this was suspected by GameStar , among other things, that the name was too close to the Sacred series.
