Sadegh Larijani (2016)

Sadegh Larijani ( Persian صادق لاریجانی; * March 12, 1961 in Najaf , Iraq ) is a Shiite cleric with the title Hodschatoleslam , member of the Guardian Council since 2001 and was appointed head of the judiciary of Iran by revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in 2009 . He succeeded Mahmud Hashemi Shahrudi , whose term of office had not been extended by revolutionary leader Khamenei. At the same time as the appointment of Larijani after the controversial elections in Iran in 2009, Ahmad Vahidi, who was wanted by Argentina for murder and who had been announced for arrest at Interpol, became defense minister. Sadegh Larijani continues to hold the position of head of justice. He now bears the title of Ayatollah, as can also be seen from the head of his own website.

Confrontation with Abdolkarim Sorusch

In 1992 Sadegh Larijani wrote a book to refute Abdolkarim Sorusch . In this refutation, entitled “Religious Knowledge” ( Maʿrefat-e dīnī ), he rejected above all Sorusch's theory of the changeability of religious knowledge. Larijani, however, has always advocated an argumentative dispute with Sorusch. When Sorusch was beaten up in a Tehran university in October 1995, he publicly demanded that Sorusch's ideas should be discussed but not rejected outright.

Systematic perversion of the law

Larijani is jointly responsible for an arbitrary judicial system that - in violation of the Iranian constitution, which provides for freedom of religion - sentenced members of the Baha'i faith to long prison terms on pretended grounds.

Although minimal standards are often lacking in the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran and there are massive violations of Islamic law, which only allows the death penalty after extensive evidence has been preserved, for Sadegh Larijani the western cultural invasion is comparable to a military invasion. He stated that he had spent many years preparing to face the cultural invasion.

corruption

According to a report by Sahham News, the Iranian Internet TV channel DorrTV reported on October 23, 2016 that 63 bank accounts are held at the Iranian central bank under the name of Ayatollah Sadeq Larijani . A total of 1000 billion tomans - the equivalent of around 250 million euros - are deposited in these accounts , for which the head of justice, according to Amad-News, is to receive 250 billion tomans (over 62 million euros) in interest every year. When this became known, two directors of the central bank are said to have prepared a dossier on the accounts and submitted it to the Iranian Minister of Economic Affairs, Ali Tayebnia . He brought this up in the cabinet, informed President Hassan Rohani and the state control chamber was switched on. Hassan Rouhani requested a meeting with Ayatollah Khamenei and drew his attention to the allegations against the head of the judiciary. The head of justice's reaction was swift: he summoned the Minister of Economic Affairs and reproached him as to why he had presented the information to the cabinet and informed the President. The two bank directors who prepared the dossier and two investigators from the Control Chamber were arrested.

family

Sadegh Larijani is the son of Ayatollah Hashem Amoli and the younger brother of the Iranian Parliament President Ali Larijani , the other brothers are: Mohammad-Javad Larijani , Director of the Institute for Theoretical Physics and Mathematics in Tehran , Bagher Larijani , Director of the Tehran University of Medical Sciences , and Fazel Larijani, Iranian cultural attaché in Ottawa . "The Larijani family with four influential brothers embodies the intellectuals of the Islamic Republic like no other."
