Salamat Schiftah , Persian سلامت شیفته Salâmat Shefta , (born December 20, 1938 in Kabul ) is amusician, singer and composer of traditional and new Afghan music and writerfrom Afghanistan .

Live and act

Schiftah was born in Kabul and attended the German School there, where he graduated from high school in 1957. In a special examination, he qualified for a scholarship to study in Germany. In the meantime he studied law in Kabul and took part in an internship in northern Afghanistan to explore oil.

In 1959 Salamat Schiftah came to Germany. His studies he decided as a Geologist in Munich and received his doctorate there in the subjects of paleontology, chemistry and biology to Dr. rer. nat.

From 1967 to 1971 he was a. a. Active in research at the Universities of Munich and Tübingen, then from 1971 to 1989 as a teacher for natural science subjects, especially biology, at the Westerwald-Gymnasium in Altenkirchen . In parallel to his classes, he was head of the department for ten years.

In 1989, Schiftah took early retirement due to an eye condition. Alone or with the Afghan-Duo, the Afghan-Trio, the Afghan-Ensemble, the Indo-Afghan-Trio and the East-West-Ensemble he founded, he presents his own songs, instrumental pieces and works by old masters from this cultural area with singing and on the lute Rubab, etc. a. Instruments. The highlights of his work are three appearances at the Dokumenta with Ursel Schlicht Extempore in 2002, 2007 and 2012, appearances with Nina Hagen and the world music formation Embryo .

In addition to the rubab, Schiftah plays the following instruments: long-necked lute tanbur , Arabic lute oud , Indian sarod and sitar , beaker drum zerbaghali , Indian drum pair tabla , harmonica , chromonica , flute, as well as singing (Afghan folklore and Indian classical singing). In addition to several CDs and DVDs with Afghan / Indian music and poetry, in 2017 he published the bilingual (German- Farsi ) poetry volume Gedichte - sinn und rar, Blick aus München and Mazar .

Award

In 2005 he was awarded the Medal of Merit of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate for his intercultural work .
