The Salcha River is an approximately 200 km long right tributary of the Tanana River in central Alaska .
The Salcha River has its source in the Tanana Hills south of the Steese National Conservation Area . From there it flows in a predominantly west-southwest direction through the Alaska Interior . It finally flows into the Tanana River 60 km southeast of Fairbanks near Salcha . The Salcha River drains an area of 5620 km². Its mean discharge is 45 m³ / s.
The Richardson Highway ( Alaska Route 2 ) crosses the river just before its mouth.
The Salcha River is a popular fishing area. In the lower reaches mainly king salmon is caught, while in the upper reaches the Arctic grayling .
