Isobutyl salicylate or isobutyl salicylate is the isobutyl ester of salicylic acid . It is a colorless liquid that smells like clover and is not soluble in water and glycerine , but in ethanol and mineral oils .

Isobutyl salicylate can be prepared by esterifying salicylic acid with isobutanol in the presence of sulfuric acid as a catalyst .
