The Salmon River ( English for " salmon river") is a tributary of the Bay of Fundy in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia .
It rises in the Cobequid Mountains - about 25 km north of Truro . It initially flows in an easterly direction, later it gradually turns south and south-west. It flows through a glacier-shaped valley in the lower reaches. The river passes the small town of Truro and finally flows into the northeast end of Cobequid Bay , which is part of the Minas Basin . The Salmon River has a length of about 50 km. Larger tributaries are Black River from the left and North River from the right.
The Salmon River is a spawning area for Atlantic salmon .
Twice a day a tidal wave rushes upstream from the Bay of Fundy.
