Saltaire is a village parish in Suffolk County , New York . In the 2010 census , the village had 37 inhabitants. The Village of Saltaire is located in the southern part of the Town of Islip . In summer, however, the population grows by several orders of magnitude due to tourism .
geography
The village is located on the western part of Fire Island between Great South Bay and the Atlantic Ocean . It has a total area of 0.9 km².
Demographics
The 43 permanent residents of the village in 2000 were distributed to 14 households; 9 of these households consisted of families . The population density is 59.3 people per square kilometer. Although there were only 14 households, there are 401 apartments, most of which are only inhabited in summer. 79% of the population identified as white, 9% was of Asian descent, and 12% considered themselves to be of multiple "races"; 2% of the residents are Latinos . None of the residents during the census were considered poor.
