Salvatore Di Cristina (born March 16, 1937 in Palermo , Italy ) is retired Archbishop of Monreale .

biography

Salvatore Di Cristina studied until his ordination on July 2, 1960 at the Archbishop's Seminary in Palermo and then in Rome at the Pontifical Patristic Institute of the Pontifical Lateran University , where he received his doctorate in theology and patristicism .

Salvatore Di Cristina worked as a priest in several parishes in the Archdiocese of Palermo and was Vice-Rector, Vice-Rector and Spiritual of the seminary for several years . Pope John Paul II awarded him the title of Chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ) on January 31, 1986 . At the Istituto Filosofico-Teologico per la Sicilia Occidentale, which is now a theological faculty, he taught patrology . From 1990 to 1996 he was president of the institute.

In February 1998 Salvatore Di Cristina was appointed Vicar General by Cardinal Salvatore De Giorgi , Archbishop of Palermo . On December 23, 2000 he was appointed titular bishop of Bilta and auxiliary bishop in Palermo. He received his episcopal ordination on January 26, 2001 in the Cathedral of Palermo .

On October 2, 2006, after the sudden death of Cataldo Naro , Archbishop of Monreale, Salvatore Di Cristina was born by Pope Benedict XVI. Appointed Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Monreale. On December 2, 2006, the Pope appointed him Archbishop of Monreale. The official inauguration took place on December 23, 2006 in Monreale Cathedral .

In the Sicilian Episcopal Conference , Salvatore Di Cristina was delegate for culture and social communication.

On February 8, 2013, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.
