Michele Pennisi (born November 23, 1946 in Licodia Eubea , Province of Catania , Italy ) is Archbishop of Monreale .

biography

Michele Pennisi was a seminarian at the Almo Collegio Capranica in Rome and was ordained a priest on September 9, 1972 . He then worked as a teacher at various state and church institutes. In 1985 he became rector of the diocesan seminary of Caltagirone , which he remained until 1992. After he was episcopal vicar for cultural and social pastoral care there from 1993 to 1997, Pennisi went to Rome as rector of the Almo Collegio Capranica. He held this office until his appointment as bishop.

On April 12, 2002, he was appointed Bishop of Piazza Armerina . He received his episcopal ordination on July 3rd of the same year in the cathedral of Piazza Armerina by the Archbishop of Palermo , Salvatore Cardinal De Giorgi . Co-consecrators were the Archbishop of Palermo, Salvatore Cardinal Pappalardo , and the Apostolic Nuncio in Italy, Paolo Romeo .

On February 8, 2013, Pope Benedict XVI appointed Pennisi as Archbishop of Monreale. On April 26th of the same year the newly appointed archbishop took possession of the diocese in accordance with the prescriptions of canon law (can. 382 CIC ).

Michele Pennisi is the delegate for Catholic education, schools and universities in the Sicilian Bishops' Conference .

Since March 2014 he has been the ecclesiastical Grand Prior of the Military and Hospitable Order of St. Lazarus of Jerusalem .
