Salvator Church

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Salvator is located in the Bad Rodach cemetery at Hildburghäuser Straße 17 . It is a listed building .

history

With the relocation of the Gottesackers west of the city in 1573, the cemetery around the city church of St. Johannis was abandoned. In July 1710, the mayor and town councilor of Rodach asked Duke Johann Ernst for wood to build a church to replace the cemetery chapel that had been destroyed during the Thirty Years War . This cemetery church should also be used for funerals, especially in the winter months. From 1711 to 1714 the wooden church was built in the south corner of the cemetery. The deacon Laurentius Hartmann Schenck consecrated it on November 15, 1714 to the patronage of Saint Salvator .

After the wooden church was demolished , master builder Koch began building a new “Gottesackerkirche” in 1742. The pulpit and pews of the old church have been reused. In 1749, Superintendent Benedict Grüner inaugurated this cemetery church.

The cemetery was expanded again in 1885 and the Salvator Church was renovated significantly through donations from the population. After severe damage in World War II , their fate remained uncertain for a long time. It was finally restored from 1978 to 1980 . On January 27, 1985, a new small organ was inaugurated.
