Salzburg Ceramic Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Salzburg Ceramics Prize is an Austrian art prize that is specifically dedicated to the art of ceramics and was awarded both as a Prize of the State of Salzburg and the State Prize of the Republic of Austria .

History, organization

Both prizes (Land Salzburg, Republic of Austria) were and are organized by the cultural department of the Salzburg provincial government . It began in 1989 as a regional prize for Salzburg artists and has been advertised throughout Austria and Europe since 1993. These prizes are now established in German-speaking countries and are viewed as an important award in the field of "ceramic art". They are awarded every several years (2 to 5 years).

Salzburg ceramic prizes are only awarded to artists who were born in Austria or who have lived and worked in Austria for more than 5 years and who create works of art using ceramic materials (clay, clay, porcelain, etc.).

Between 1993 and 2007 two main prizes were awarded: (1) A prize from the State of Salzburg (since 2010 with an endowment of 6000 euros), and (2) up to 2007 a prize from the Republic of Austria (through the so-called art section - today (again ) in the Federal Chancellery , at that time endowed with 3000 euros). To this end, recognition prizes and work grants (currently endowed with 2500 euros each) have been and are being awarded.

Works by the award winners and finalists were and will be exhibited in the gallery in the Traklhaus in the city of Salzburg (sometimes also in other locations).
