Sam James (born March 28, 1996 in Leverkusen , North Rhine-Westphalia ; real name: Samuel Patrick James) is a German-British singer , rapper , songwriter and music producer . In his music he mixes indie rock , hip hop and pop elements in particular to create songs with his own lyrics and self-produced instrumentals.

biography

Sam James grew up in Langenfeld and tried his hand at various instruments at a young age until he finally started playing drums. Thanks to his British father in particular, he enjoyed a very musical and international youth, which brought him to English-language music at an early age. Inspired by the likes of Kid Cudi , Kanye West , The Kooks and Sido , he started producing beats in his nursery at the age of 16.

Through his producer alter ego rvger he quickly began to make contact with other artists via the music platform Soundcloud and produced music for Mena, Kynda Gray , Toon, Rapsta - together with his good friend Ducid he was able to do the instrumental for Yung Fusion - The Mission even landed a small international hit, which quickly reached over a million streams on the Spotify streaming platform thanks to the Dutch EDM artist Dread Pitt in a remix .

Sam James later moved to Cologne to complete an apprenticeship as an audiovisual media businessman. Due to the new environment and the many opportunities that a big city brought with it, Sam James began to make further contacts and began to write his own lyrics and songs, which he published on Soundcloud under the artist name rvger .

At the beginning of 2018 his first EP Sam vs. The world. In addition, further productions for Sierra Kidd , 3Moon, Holy Modee followed, until 2019 the EP series "Fantasie & Wahnsinn: Die Revolution" was released via Instagram and mutual acquaintances. In the same year he met the Berlin producer and rapper Nugat , who gave him his first live -Possibility to appear on his Paranoia Flash Dude Tour in the Veedelsclub in Cologne. This was followed by a joint EP by Nugat and Sam James, which was called "Untitled EP No.3" .

At the end of 2019, two songs by Sylabil Spill were released on Loud Records . The songs Abel and Kain made it into several relevant streaming playlists and were played on various radio stations such as Jam FM , Big FM , Radio Fritz and WDR Cosmo.

At the beginning of 2020 his current project "Handle With Care" appeared, on which he worked for the first time with the gold producer iLLthinker, who has already produced artists such as Bausa, Motrip, Farid Bang and Summer Cem. Most of the beats on the project came from Sam James, iLLthinker then helped with mixing and mastering.

Handle With Care

His latest project "Handle With Care" describes the artist's own fragility - especially love for others and for himself. In doing so, Sam James doesn't rely on dark and heavy beats and convulsively deep lyrics, but delivers a free and honest one Sound with depth of content and musical ease.

Videos

In July 2017, Sam James released his first video, which was shot on his own with Alex Piwo . The video shows Sam James in different areas of the music industry, which he combines as an independent artist in one role. The intention was to visually represent the diversity and creativity of the young artist in a humorous way.

In 2020, Sam James and Youtuber Raphi released a new video for the song "The next time" as a single for the Handle With Care project .

With his music, Sam James has already found approval on several popular platforms in German hip-hop. From beats in the 16 bars hotbox to Mauli and Staiger's "Wundersame Rapwoche" to written interviews and articles on Hiphopde, Rapde, 16bars and Diffus Magazin - all press work and communication was done independently.

Shows

Sam James made his first live experiences at the Jam Connect or the Für-die-Gang-Event (both Cologne) in 2018 , before he played his own drippin ' party in Austria in 2019 . Artists like Reezy, Marty Baller, Ce $ and Elias also appeared there in the following years. Later he convinced as Cologne support for paranoia Flash Dude Tour of nougat in May of 2019.
