Life

Jinks grew up in a home that encouraged his creativity. His mother worked as a nurse and painter, his father was a carpenter and a school teacher for mathematics and physics. After finishing school, Jinks first worked as an illustrator . He gained knowledge of the materials latex and silicone he used during his subsequent work in television, where he worked in props for commercials and films and in the design and manufacture of masks and sculptures. After initial sketches and making miniature models, Jinks first modeled his sculptures on a support frame made of steel and wood in clay before casting them in silicone. After shaping his naturalistic representations of people, he uses human hair and finally applies paint. A special feature of his sculptures is that human bodies are always a bit smaller than the 1: 1 scale. He also makes animal sculptures, some of which are larger than life, such as snails and insects.

Artistically it can be assigned to hyperrealism . The themes of his works are recurring death and birth as part of an eternal cycle. His sculptures rich in detail, described as "poignantly beautiful" and "irresistible in their striking resemblances to real life", "causing one to ponder larger universal ideas associated with life, death, and intimacy "(force the viewer to think about larger universal ideas about life, death and intimacy).

Works by Sam Jinks can be found in the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art , New Delhi, the Museo Escultura Figurativa Internacional Contemporánea (MEFIC), Portugal, the RMIT Gallery , Melbourne, the McClelland Gallery and Sculpture Park and the Shepparton Art Museum , Shepparton.
