Sambach is located in the north-western municipality about half a kilometer from the core municipality on the right bank of the Lauter . On the other side of the river is the Stockborn settlement belonging to the Kaiserslautern district of Erfenbach . The Dutenbach , an orographically right tributary of the Lauter, flows through the Sambach settlement area . The local community of Katzweiler is located one kilometer to the northwest .

history

From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Sambach was incorporated into the Canton of Otterberg . In 1815 the place first belonged to Austria . A year later he moved to the Kingdom of Bavaria . From 1818 to 1862 he was a member of the Land Commissioner in Kaiserslautern ; from this the district office of Kaiserslautern emerged. In 1928 Sambach had 247 residents who lived in 38 residential buildings. At that time the Catholics belonged to the parish of Otterbach, while the Protestants belonged to that of Otterberg . From 1938 the place was part of the district of Kaiserslautern . After the Second World War , Sambach became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . In the course of the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform , the place was incorporated into the neighboring community of Otterbach on June 7, 1969 . Since then Sambach has formed a local district there.

traffic

With the opening of the Lautertalbahn Kaiserslautern - Lauterecken in 1883, the place was connected to the railway network. The Sambach stop was used exclusively for passenger traffic and was accordingly run as a type 1 station during the time of the Bavarian State Railways . It was given up as early as 1912; even before that, it had been the most unprofitable operating point in the Pfalzbahn network, together with the Erbach station on the Glantalbahn . Since the 2000s there have been efforts in Sambach to set up a stop on site again. The federal highway 270 also runs through the village .
