Samir Bannout

Samir Bannout ( Arabic سمير بنوت, DMG Samīr Bannūt ; * November 7, 1955 in Beirut ) is a professional bodybuilder . The bannout, known as the "Lion of Lebanon" (German: Löwe des Lebanon ), won the 1983 title of Mr. Olympia .

Career

Bannout moved to Detroit in the United States where he began bodybuilding . In 1974, at the age of 19, he took part in the Mr. Universe competition as the youngest participant and finished in seventh place. He made it to a professional level five years later by winning the light heavyweight division at the World Amateur Bodybuilding Championships , hosted by the International Federation of Bodybuilding & Fitness (IFBB). In 1980 he took part in the Mr. Olympia competition for the first time and came in 15th.

After finishing ninth (1981) and fourth (1982), Bannout finally became Mr. Olympia in Munich in 1983 and won the highest award in professional bodybuilding. Traditionally, he was presented with a bronze image of Eugen Sandow as a trophy . In the following years he took part in the competition a total of seven times, but did not get beyond sixth place. He is currently the only one, alongside Chris Dickerson (1982) and Dexter Jackson (2008), who could only win the title once. In addition, Bannout was banned from the IFBB for three years in 1984 because he was taking part in a competition organized by the rival World Amateur Body Building Association .

In 1990 he won his final professional title at the Pittsburgh Pro Invitational . He then ended his active career after 17 years. In 2002 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame by the IFBB . Bannout is married with three children and currently lives in Los Angeles .
