Collection of the Mathian Brotherhood of Nörvenich

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The collection of the Mathian Brotherhood of Nörvenich is mentioned in the very extensive diary of the Nörvenich miller (1789 to 1824) and alder Rainer Badenheuer in 1775 and 1777.

The collection always started on the first Sunday after Easter and lasted until Ascension Day . In Nörvenich, collections were always held on this feast day, in the neighboring towns on the Sundays before. In 1775 Badenheuer had helpers, namely Gerard Emunds and Ferdinand Hoffsümmer, in 1777 Engel Proener and Henrich Jüngen helped him. The helpers received a daily allowance and gifts. Be had to travel a considerable distance routes, namely to Gladbach , Lüxheim , Hochkirchen , astray home , Olle home , Oberbolheim , Eggersheim , Poll , Dorweiler . Kelz , Rath and Wissersheim . Every house had to be visited. In 1775 the collection resulted in 10 Reichstaler and 17 Albus . After deducting the daily allowances for the collectors, there were 9 Reichstaler and 5 Albus as net profit.

In 1777 the collection showed a completely different picture, because donations in kind were also collected, mostly eggs, which were then sold. The proceeds came to the collection result. Nevertheless, the result in 1777 was very poor. The floods of the Neffelbach in Nörvernich had destroyed some farms and in 1776 and 1777 a cattle plague raged in the Nörvenich area . This had made the cash scarce. The result was only 4 Reichstaler, 42 Albus and 4 Heller .

With the proceeds from the collections, the procession from Nörvenich to the gift of St. Apostle Matthias to Trier in the Matthias Basilica financed. This money was also donated to the local monastery .
