Sammy Kipketer

Sammy Kipketer ( Sammy Kipketer Cheruiyot ; born September 29, 1981 in Rokocho near Kaptarakwa , Keiyo District ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner .

Life

In 2000 he won the silver medal on the short distance at the Cross Country World Championships and won gold with the Kenyan team. A week later he set a world best time in the 5 km road race at the Carlsbad 5000 with 13:00 min . In the Kenyan eliminations over 5000 m for the Olympic Games in Sydney , he missed qualification by just 0.6 seconds.

In the following year he finished fourth at the Cross Country World Championships on the short distance and won gold with the team, equalized his world best time at the Carlsbad 5000 and set a world record in the 10 km road race at the Parelloop with 27:18 minutes. At the 5000-meter run of the 2001 World Athletics Championships in Edmonton, he ensured a high pace, but in the end fell back to sixth place.

As in the previous year, he finished fourth in the individual ranking at the 2002 Cross Country World Championships and won team gold. He also defended his title at the Carlsbad 5000. At the Commonwealth Games in Manchester he won gold over 5000 m.

Sammy Kipketer is 1.66 m tall and weighs 52 kg. He is a graduate of Lelboinet Secondary School and has been a member of the Kenyan Army since 2001. He lives mainly in Nairobi and Merewit ( Uasin Gishu District ), where he has bought a piece of land and built a house with his prize money.
