Samuel Joseph Aquila
Samuel Joseph Aquila (born September 24, 1950 in Burbank , California , USA ) is Archbishop of Denver .
Life
Samuel Aquila received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Denver on June 5, 1976 . In 1999 he became the first rector of the newly founded Saint John Vianney Theological Seminary , a theological training facility for prospective priests based on the example of the holy pastor of Ars . Pope John Paul II awarded him the title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness ( Monsignor ) in 2000 .
On June 12, 2001, John Paul II appointed him Coadjutor Bishop of Fargo . The Archbishop of Saint Paul and Minneapolis , Harry J. Flynn , donated him episcopal ordination on August 24 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Fargo, James Stephen Sullivan , and the Archbishop of Denver, Charles Joseph Chaput, OFMCap .
Samuel Joseph Aquila was appointed local bishop of Fargo on March 18, 2002, replacing James Stephen Sullivan , who had resigned due to illness . On May 29, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Archbishop of Denver. The inauguration took place on July 18 of the same year.
