Samuel Rothenberg

Friedrich Samuel Rothenberg (born September 1, 1910 in Solingen , North Rhine-Westphalia , † October 15, 1997 in Korbach , Hesse ) was a German Protestant theologian .

Life

Rothenberg grew up in a family who loved singing and was shaped by the singing movement (Walther Hensel, Fritz Jöde, Richard Gölz). He was the brother of Theophil Rothenberg .

As a parish and “Sing” pastor of the Confessing Church in Berlin, he published the song book Das Aufgebot in 1939 . After the war and imprisonment, he was Singwart and publishing director at the YMCA Kassel. His songbook Das Junge Lied from 1949 achieved particular distribution .

From 1951 to 1962 he was pastor at the Nikolaikirche in Korbach.

Melodies in church hymn books

Among other things, Samuel Rothenberg created the melodies for Jochen Klepper's songs in 1939, Yes, I want to carry you into old age ( EG 380) and Du Child, to this sacred time ( GL 254; on the EG with a melody by Volker Gwinner ). He set Rudolf Alexander Schröder to music in 1941. It may be that everything falls ( RG 697) and in 1948 it was evening, soon the night will come (melody and movement EG 487).
