St. Nikolai

The Evangelical Lutheran parish church of St. Nikolai is the historic main church of the "Neustadt" of Korbach , the district town of the Waldeck-Frankenberg district ( Hesse ) , built in the 14th century .

History and architecture

West portal

The large, three-nave, late Gothic hall church to four yokes and a choir of two bays with 5 / 8 -Schluss was built in the mid-15th century. The stately, pre-built west tower was built in 1359, the pointed helmet with four stone gables was renewed in 1702. The aisles are half as wide as the central nave . The rectangular cross-rib vaults rest on simple round pillars in the choir and central nave. The vaults are stretched in the side aisles . The keystones are provided with reliefs. The steeply proportioned west portal is framed by slender pinnacles . In the south aisle you can see wall paintings from the beginning of the 15th century depicting Mary and John.

Interior to the east
  • The Hochaltarmensa dates from the 15th century. On it stands a large painted winged altar from 1518, the work of the so-called Korbach Franciscan painter . The middle picture shows the adoration of the kings , the wings are painted with depictions of the life of Mary.
  • A large wooden crucifix from the early 16th century
  • The late Gothic stone pulpit was made around 1460
  • The font is from the second half of the 17th century
  • The large, magnificent wall grave made of alabaster , marble and limestone for Prince Georg Friedrich von Waldeck († 1692) is around 12 m high and 7 m wide. The equestrian figure of the deceased stands above the sarcophagus. He is surrounded by representations of the four cardinal virtues . The conclusion is a very large coat of arms with trophies. The wrought iron grille in front of it was built around 1700.

Baroque organ prospectus from 1744

The organ was built in 1982 by the organ builder Dieter Noeske (Rotenburg / Fulda). The slider chests -instrument is 30 registers on two manuals and pedal applied. So far, only 25 registers have been implemented. It was housed in a historic organ case , which comes from an organ that was built in the years 1742–1744 by the organ builder Johann Friedrich Schäffer . The key actions are mechanical, the stop actions are electric.
