Samuel Schatzmann

Samuel Schatzmann (born October 12, 1955 ; † November 2, 2016 in Oftringen ) was a Swiss dressage rider .

At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 he won the silver medal in team dressage on “Rochus” together with Otto Hofer , Daniel Ramseier and Christine Stückelberger behind the West German team and ahead of Canada. In the individual dressage he could not qualify for the finals.

A year later Schatzmann won the bronze medal on the same horse in the team competition at the European Dressage Championships in 1989 in Bad Mondorf together with Otto Hofer, Daniel Ramseier and Ulrich Lehmann behind the teams of the FRG and the Soviet Republic.

Schatzmann had a doctorate in law and was an entrepreneur. He promoted the Westphalian horse breeding, for example as a breeder through cooperation with the North Rhine-Westphalian State Stud Warendorf . In 2015 he was awarded the Silver Pin of Honor of the Westphalian Horse Studbook for his services to Westphalian breeding. For several years he was the central president of the Association of Swiss Concours Riders.
