The North Rhine-Westphalian State Stud Warendorf is the center of horse breeding and equestrian sports in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

The North Rhine-Westphalian State Stud can now look back on over 180 years of history. It was founded in 1826 at the request of horse breeders in Westphalia and the Rhine Province , making it the first Prussian state stud in western Germany. After the war ended, it became the property of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and is now part of the Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Agriculture, Nature and Consumer Protection of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia . However, the task of the state stud has remained basically unchanged since its foundation. It consists in providing the horse breeders with high quality and genetically interesting stallions for a reasonable stud fee . The primary goal is the breeding progress.

today

From 1996 to spring 2016, the stud farm was managed by the agricultural engineer Susanne Schmitt-Rimkus. She was the first female state stud manager in Germany and was responsible for around 100 active stallions. In addition to the warmblood stallions and thoroughbreds, there are also numerous warmblood stallions in the listed stables of the stud.

The stallions are looked after and looked after by around 65 employees. In addition, there are 21 apprentices who are learning the profession of horse trader - focus on riding or - focus on breeding and husbandry.

The German Riding School is attached to the stud . It is the "center of professional equestrianism" and offers advanced training and examination courses for professional riders, amateurs and tournament professionals. Since not every candidate has his own horse, around 50 stallions and geldings are part of the school's teaching horse population.

In total, the state stud offers space for 160 horses on its eight hectare site. The breeding season lasts from February to August. Customers include breeders from Germany as well as all of Europe, the USA and Australia.
