history

Church interior

The establishment, on the initiative of Luigi Guanella with the support of Pope Pius X instead. The church was dedicated to Saint Joseph . Thanks to private donations, construction began in 1909. The architect was Aristide Leonori .

In addition to the architectural aspects, the anticlerical mood of the time of origin can also be recognized. The splendid side of the church does not face the main square or street, but rather towards the two side streets.

With the Apostolic Constitution Cum incolarum , the parish rights and income were transferred from San Marcello here and the construction of the Residenza San Giuseppe, the seat of the most important nursing school in Rome, began. The pastoral care on site is carried out by the servants of charity .

June 7, 1967 the church was opened by Pope Paul VI. elevated to title diakonia and in 1970 to basilica minor .

The church has an eight-part bell from the Bianchi e Colbachini foundry.
