Sandra Schmitt (born April 26, 1981 in Mörfelden , † November 11, 2000 in Kaprun , Austria ) was a German freestyle skier . She was on the moguls specialized disciplines, contained moguls and dual moguls. Her greatest achievement was winning the dual moguls world title in 1999.

biography

From January 1997 Schmitt started in the European Cup and immediately established himself at the top with a victory in her first participation. She made her debut in the Freestyle World Cup on December 5, 1997 in Tignes ; with 10th place in the Moguls competition, she also won her first World Cup points. With three other top 10 placements, she qualified for the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano , where she finished 9th. On January 16, 1999, she achieved her first World Cup victory in Steamboat Springs .

At the 1999 World Cup in Hasliberg , Schmitt won the gold medal in the Dual Moguls discipline. She prevailed against the Norwegian Kari Traa in the finals . During the 1999/2000 World Cup season, she won four times, plus three more podium places. In both the Moguls and the Dual Moguls disciplines she came in 3rd place, and in the overall World Cup ranking it was fifth.

Schmitt died on November 11, 2000 in the fire disaster of the glacier lift in Kaprun , together with her parents and an alpine training group of the German Ski Association .
