Saint Martin Church (Sülldorf)
The Sankt-Martin-Kirche is the Protestant church in the village of Sülldorf in Saxony-Anhalt . It belongs to the parish "Im Sülzetal" in the parish Egeln of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .
architecture
The church dates back to the late Romanesque period and rises on a hill above the Salzstellen nature reserve near Sülldorf .
On the west side is the church tower built on a rectangular floor plan across the nave. The tower is provided with a gable roof and has arched windows. The choir on the east side takes up the width of the nave, but is slightly lower than it.
In 1717 the nave and choir were redesigned in the Baroque style. The segment arched windows were created during this time . The sacristy on the north side of the choir also dates from this period.
Interior
Inside the building there is a two-storey gallery on the west side . There is a manorial gallery on the north side of the choir. The ceiling is vaulted with a steep wooden barrel.
A wooden pulpit altar from the first half of the 17th century is remarkable. It is decorated with reliefs of evangelists, rich ornamentation, the risen Christ , Moses and John the Baptist. Even older is an octagonal from sandstone crafted font , which is dated to the 1577th
The organ in the church was built by the R. Voigt company from Stendal in the second half of the 19th century.
Churchyard
Access from the village to the churchyard is through an archway. The wall of the churchyard contains several tombstones from the middle of the 16th to the beginning of the 17th century. The almost life-size reliefs of praying people are remarkable. Several of the tombstones were placed for members of the von Berndes family .
