Architecture and history

View through the nave to the east

The core of the church dates back to the high Middle Ages , but was heavily redesigned in Gothic and Baroque styles. The first documentary mention comes from 1303. Other information gives the year 1303 as the year of construction of the church, which was initially built as a chapel.

The low choir tower of the single-nave hall church is to the east of the nave. The choir is located in the basement of the tower. It is spanned by a flat ceiling and is opened to the nave by a pointed arch resting on late Romanesque fighters . In the east wall there are three pointed arched windows.

Sacrament house

The nave is built in the same width as the choir, but today (as of 2016) no longer has a roof. Originally, the interior of the ship was spanned by a flat barrel ceiling. On the north and west side there were lavishly carved galleries from the 16th to 17th centuries. The wooden pulpit was simply designed in the late Renaissance style. On a narrow pillar on the east wall of the choir is a preserved stone sacrament house . Above the door there is a keel arch in relief with pinnacles and finial which is dated to the late 15th century. The organ front came from the 18th century.

Parts of the facility have been outsourced. Such a shrine with a carved altar with Madonna and three saints from the beginning of the 16th century, which is located in the Sankt-Maria-Magdalena-Kirche in Plötzky , as well as an altar crucifix from the 15th century.

The grave of Anton Kramer, who died in March, is located in the cemetery surrounding the church .

In the local register of monuments , the church is listed as a historical building under registration number 094 20806 .

In the 20th century the church was used alternately by the Protestant and Catholic community. In the course of the strong industrialization of the area and the associated population growth, the space of the church was no longer sufficient. The building was damaged in the Second World War . At first, the building continued to be used occasionally but was abandoned in the 1970s and began to deteriorate. In 2004 the remains of the church building were renovated and secured. The church ruins are now used as a concert hall.
