Sankt Marie Sogn is a parish municipality ( Danish : Sogn ) in Sønderborg on the island of Als in North Schleswig in southern Denmark . The parish was established in 1957 when the parish of Sønderborg Sogn, which encompassed the entire city, was divided into Christians Sogn in the southeast and Sankt Marie Sogn in the northwest, including a small area on the mainland connected to the city center by the Alssund Bridge . Until 1970 it belonged to Harde Sønder Als Herred in what was then Aabenraa-Sønderborg Amt , then to Sønderborg Kommune in what was then Sønderjyllands Amt , which was merged into the "new" Sønderborg Kommune in the Syddanmark region as part of the municipal reform on January 1, 2007 .
10,121 of the 27,841 inhabitants of Sønderborg live in the area of the parish of Sankt Marie Sogn (as of January 1, 2020).
