Sansevieria kirkii

Sansevieria kirkii is a species of the genus Sansevieria in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae). The specific epithet honors the British Consul General from Zanzibar John Kirk , who was also a plant collector in East Africa.

description

Sansevieria kirkiii grows without a stem as a perennial , succulent plant with strong rhizomes . The one to three upright or ascending-spreading leaves are pointed backwards, elongated lanceolate or broadly band-shaped. The simple leaf blade is 75 to 275 inches long and 6 to 9 inches wide. It narrows gradually from about the middle into a 8.5 to 12.7 millimeter long pale whitish brown and hard spider tip. The leaves are whitish brown, greyish green, speckled or light green transversely banded, with three to nine dark green longitudinal lines. The leaf margin is wavy and reddish brown. The leaf surface is smooth. The pulchra variety has clearly more marked and partially prostrate leaves, with whitish green, buff-colored or almost reddish spots or irregular bands.

The simple capitate , dense inflorescences are up to 60 centimeters long. They have a dull purple-brown, pale green, or dull whitish spotted stem. The panicles are densely covered with flowers and 3.8 to 10 centimeters long. The support sheet is egg-shaped or elongated egg-shaped, pointed or approximately blunt. It is 25 to 38 millimeters long and 8.5 to 19 millimeters wide. The flower stalk is 6.4 to 10.5 millimeters long. The flower tube is 11.4 to 12.7 inches long. It is pale purple or dull pink. The tips are 3.2 to 4.5 inches and white.
