Santana de Cambas is a place and a municipality ( Freguesia ) in the Baixo Alentejo in Portugal in the district ( Concelho ) of Mértola with an area of ​​166.7 km² and 797 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011). This corresponds to a population density of 4.8 inh / km².

The river port of Pomarão, on the banks of the Guadiana River, belongs to this municipality . The ores from the Mina de São Domingos used to be transported through this port . The connection from the mine to the river port was made by a private railway line owned by the mining company.

The Museu do Contrabando museum in the municipality is dedicated to the history of smuggling between Portugal and Spain, which took place here mainly between 1852 and the First World War and during the Spanish Civil War .
