Sapientia Christiana

The Apostolic Constitution Sapientia Christiana (abbreviation SC) was published on April 15, 1979 by Pope John Paul II , he hereby defines the order “About the ecclesiastical universities and faculties”. On April 29, 1979, the Congregation for Catholic Education issued an executive order that became part of this Apostolic Constitution.

Within the framework of the law agreed with the Concordat , Catholic theological faculties and non-faculty theological institutions at state universities and colleges in Germany are subject to universal church law, which was reorganized with this constitution and adapted to the German situation in 1983 through two so-called accommodation decrees.

The inclusion of these constitutional orders in statutes can be exemplified in the statutes of the Theological Faculty Paderborn , so it says in Article 2 "Tasks of the Faculty":

"(1) The Paderborn Theological Faculty has the task of providing its students with a thorough academic education in Catholic theology in order to enable them to take part responsibly in the Church's salvation service in preaching, liturgy and diakonia based on in-depth knowledge of the faith (cf. . Decree Optatam totius Art. 16). It is their special goal to ensure the education of those "who approach the priesthood or who are preparing to take on special church tasks" (cf. Apostolic Constitution Sapientia christiana Art. 74, § 1). "

In Sapientia Christiana, for all areas of personnel and financial organization , for the research assignment (SC Art. 66), for uniform teaching (SC Ar. 67 § 2 and Art. 70), for the appointment of Magnus Cancellarius (SC Art. in principle by the local 8) diocesan bishop is perceived for the rector (SC Art. 18) for the staff and, finally, the condition of the study and requirements for the students issued clear rules.

On December 8, 2017, it was renewed by the Apostolic Constitution Veritatis Gaudium .
