Sara travel
Sara Reisen (also: Sarah Reisen ; * 1885 in Koidanowo , Minsk Governorate , Russian Empire ; † October 25, 1974 in New York City ) was a Yiddish translator, writer , poet, daughter of Kalman Reisen , sister of Abraham and Salman Reisen .
At the age of 14 she came to Minsk , received private lessons there and then made her way through life as an employee of the Minsk Russian newspaper and as the author of Yiddish journals, sketches, stories and songs. She was part of the Yiddish literary circle around Rokhel Brokhes (1880–1945).
From 1908 to 1914 she lived in Warsaw , then again in Minsk, where she worked as a teacher, but at the same time also wrote dramas that were also performed.
After the death of her father (1921) she came to Vilnius and worked there as an employee of Yiddish magazines and as a translator for the Kletzkin publishing house. In 1933 he emigrated to New York.
She translated u. a. Nikolai Wassiljewitsch Gogol , Ivan Sergejewitsch Turgenew , Alexander Sergejewitsch Pushkin , Lev Nikolajewitsch Tolstoy , Rabindranath Tagore , Oscar Wilde , Jack London and Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe in Yiddish; In addition, she wrote many children's stories and songs (a selection published under the title Dream and Truth ).
