Sarah A. Hoyt

Sarah A. Hoyt , born in Sarah de Almeida (born November 18, 1962 in Granja , Portugal) is an American science fiction and fantasy author who also writes under the pseudonyms Sarah D'Almeida and Elise Hyatt.

biography

Hoyt was born in Granja , municipality of Águas Santas, district of Maia, a town near Porto in Portugal . She enjoyed her education in Portugal and the USA. She graduated from the University of Porto with a Masters in English and German. She also speaks Swedish, Italian and French. In 1985 she married the mathematician and science fiction writer Dan Hoyt and they have two sons together. In 1988 she received American citizenship.

She is a member of the canteen , SFWA , MWA and RWA .

Hoyt's first book in her Shakespeare series Ill Met by Moonlight was a 2002 finalist in the Mythopoeic Fantasy Award, which was then won by Lois McMaster Bujold . Most of her work, however, is set in science fiction and fantasy, where she published dozens of short stories. With Darkship Thieves she won the Prometheus Award .

The novel series about the British Empire takes place in a parallel universe and offers alternative histories from Charlemagne to Queen Victoria . Whereby Hoyt does not create the parallels through science and technology, but through magic. The first volume in the series is set in the Victorian Age , the second in India and the third in 19th century China . Against this background, the books show the full range of human heroism and wickedness.

She wrote Plain Jane under the name Laurien Gardner . As an editor, she published the anthology Something Magic This Way Comes with stories by for example: Esther Friesner , Harry Turtledove , Irene Radford and Dave Freer . As Elise Hyat , she wrote the Furniture Refinishing Mysteries series , which is set in the same Goldport, Colorado , as her Shifter series. Some of their characters appear in both series.

She currently lives in Colorado. When she is not busy writing, she can often be found on the Internet project Baen's Bar in her area, the Sarah's Diner . She uses this area to talk about good food and to encourage and support young writers.

In cooperation with Eric Flint she works on the 1632 project.
