criticism

Conservative evangelicals in particular accuse Young of unbiblical spiritual practices that go beyond the Bible. This includes, in particular, listening to God, instead of expecting God's speaking only from the Bible. Young's use of I-messages in the name of Jesus is more than a stylistic means, but suggests a claim to absoluteness and truth that is actually due only to God and his recognized and certified revelations in the Bible. God's sovereign speech and action are thereby relativized.
