Sargent's barberry ( Berberis sargentiana ) is one of China originating plant from the kind of barberry ( Berberis ) in the family of Barberry (Berberidaceae).
description
Sargent's barberry is an evergreen shrub that reaches heights of up to 2 meters. The annual twigs are strikingly reddish to vermilion in color. The leathery leaves are oblong, elliptical, up to 13 cm long, veined in a reticulate manner and toothed with spikes. The underside of the leaf is yellowish green. The leaf spines are three-part, up to 4 cm long and sharp-pointed. The flowers are light yellow and two to six are in corymbs. The berries are blue-black and frosted.

Sargent's barberry is native to western China . It was introduced by Ernest Henry Wilson in 1907.
use
Like many other barberries, this species is used as an ornamental shrub. Sargent's barberry is hardy .
With the common Oregon grape ( Mahonia aquifolium ) Sargent's barberry forms the genus hybrid x Mahoberberis aquisargentii H. Jensen .
