Sarina Glotzbach-Wiegman (born October 26, 1969 in The Hague , known as Sarina Wiegman ) is a Dutch football coach and former national player .

Career

Sarina Wiegman played for nine years, from 1994 to 2003, in the highest Dutch women's league, the Hoofd class , at VV Ter Leede from Sassenheim . With the club she was able to celebrate two Dutch championships and a cup win during this time. She had previously played soccer while studying in the United States . In terms of player type, she was “a fighter by nature with technical ability,” a classic game-distributing player in the central midfield . In addition, she completed 104 international matches for the KNVB between 1987 and 2001 , the first of which on May 23, 1987 against Norway . On the occasion of her 100th international match, the then bond coach Louis van Gaal presented her with a souvenir bowl in April 2001. Later in the year, she ended her international career after becoming pregnant. Parallel to training and games, she had pursued her job as a sports teacher.

After his active career, Wiegman initially worked at the KNVB as a trainer, responsible for the U-19 juniors in the west area. From 2006 she was head coach at her former club Ter Leede, with which she again won the championship and the cup competition. With the introduction of the Eredivisie as a "satellite club", Ter Leede began working closely with the first division teams of ADO Den Haag . Wiegmann switched to ADO and looked after the Hague women in the new league, with whom she came second three times in a row from 2009 to 2011, behind AZ (2009 and 2010) and FC Twente (2011). In 2014 she finished her job as head coach of the ADO Den Haag and switched to the Koninklijke Nederlandse Voetbal Bond .

Wiegman was a scout for the national team at the 2009 European Championship . In August 2014 Wiegman took over the vacant position as assistant coach of the Dutch national soccer team for women and acted in this position at the 2015 Women's World Cup in Canada . After the World Cup in Canada, the KNVB separated , from the bond coach Roger Reijners and Wiegman took over the post of head coach on an interim basis . Wiegman led the Dutch women to their first title at the 2017 European Championship and was voted FIFA Trainer of the Year in October 2017 .

On August 14, 2020 it was announced that Wiegman will coach the England women's national football team from September 2021. With this she replaces the coach Phil Neville, whose resignation was announced in advance.
