course

According to the signs, the start and end are in Sarnthein . In different descriptions, however, different accesses to the Rittner-Horn-Haus and the Meraner Hütte are described, also from Bozen or above from Oberbozen and Jenesien .

The mostly counter-clockwise round leads on the east ridge from the Rittner-Horn-Haus via the Latzfonser Kreuz refuge and the Flaggerschartenhütte to the Penser Joch with the Alpenrosenhof inn, from which the longer variant of the route with a total of six stages over the Ebenbergalm and the Hirzerhütte leads over the west ridge to the Meraner Hütte, in the original course with an overnight stay in the Sarntal valley directly there. The tours, some of which are high in the Alps, require a level of fitness for five to six hours with up to 1000 meters of ascent.

Südtirol Ultra Skyrace

On the course of the Sarntaler Horseshoe Tour, the Südtirol Ultra Skyrace has been taking place annually since 2013 with route lengths of 121 km, 69 km, 42 km and 27 km, with Bolzano and Sarnthein serving as the starting and finishing point for the medium-sized routes.
