The Meraner Hütte - also Hermann-Gritsch-Haus - is a refuge in the Sarntal Alps in South Tyrol , Italy .

Location and surroundings

The Meraner Hütte is located on the Sarntal west ridge at 1937  m slm altitude. From here you can reach the Hirzer in a northerly direction . To the northwest, a path leads to the Oswaldscharte , from which one can get to the Ifinger , Verdinser Plattenspitze and Hochplattspitze . To the east lies the Großer Mittager . The extensive Tschögglberg is reached on the paths leading south .

history

After the First World War , the two mountain huts of the Merano section of the German and Austrian Alpine Club , the Lodnerhütte and the Hirzerhütte , were expropriated by the Italian state and given to the Alpino Italiano Club for guidance. After the Second World War and the establishment of the Merano section of the South Tyrol Alpine Club , the desire arose to build a new hut to replace it. The Meraner Hütte, built with donations during the 1960s, was inaugurated in 1970. It was named after Hermann Gritsch in honor of the deceased AVS section chairman.

Connection

In addition to the connection via many local trails, the Meraner Hütte is a stop on the European long-distance hiking trail E5 and the Sarntaler horseshoe tour .
