Sascha Demand

Sascha Demand (born August 10, 1971 in Gütersloh ) is a German musician (guitar, composition) who has emerged both in the field of new music and improvisation music as well as a music author.

Live and act

Demand received his first guitar lessons at the age of eight; he was trained by Ulrich Müller in Osnabrück and Monika Burzik in Düsseldorf, among others. He then studied visual communication at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts (with Michael Haller and Eran Schaerf, among others ). His diploma thesis Models of Media Staging was supervised in an interdisciplinary cooperation with the University of Music and Theater Hamburg (by Peter Michael Hamel ).

In 1992 he co-founded the improvisation quintet beside the cage . Since 2001 he has been a member of the ensemble-integral in Hamburg. He plays together with the live electronics engineer Boris D. Hegenbart-Matsui in the Duo 9kHz and with Sebastian Reier in the electric guitar duo for regular fellows . He often works with the wind instrumentalist Hannes Wienert and the light artist Katrin Bethge. His busy concert activity resulted in many collaborations with musicians such as Burkhard Beins , Marko Ciciliani, Rhodri Davies , John Eckhardt , Karlheinz Essl junior , Vinko Globokar , Felix Kubin , Keith Rowe , John Russell , Burkhard Stangl , Roger Turner and Wu Wei . Demand has released several CDs.

Since 2006 he has organized the concert series Gegen den Strom for improvised music together with Burkhard Friedrich . He is a lecturer for guitar and composition at the music school in the city of Pinneberg. Demand is a member of the advisory board of the KLANG! Project in Hamburg.
