The headwaters of the Sauteru are located at around 670 m above sea level. M. on the plateaus of the Gros de Vaud east of Echallens . As a small trickle, the Sauteru initially turns to the west and flows into the plain that adjoins Echallens to the north. Here he draws a sharp bend in order to continue flowing in a north-northeast direction. The Sauteru valley gradually deepens into the molasse layers of the northern Gros de Vaud and is flanked to the east by the Bercher plateau and to the west by the ridge of the Grand Bois d'Essertines . The valley is forested and unpopulated for almost the entire route. The Sauteru flows below the village of Bioley-Magnoux at 496 m above sea level. M. in the mentue.

Hydrology
At the confluence of the Sauteru in the Mentue, its modeled mean flow rate (MQ) is 0.39 m³ / s and its flow regime type is pluvial jurassia .
The flow rate of the Sauteru fluctuates relatively strongly over the course of the year. The highest water levels were determined for the months of December to March. The flow rate reached its peak in February at 0.64 m³ / s. After that, the discharge decreases month by month and reaches its lowest level in August at 0.13 m³ / s, and then steadily increases again from September onwards, month after month.

character
Almost the entire stream is in a natural or near-natural state. The hydropower of the Sauteru was previously used to operate the Moulin Pacot (below Rueyres ) and another mill near Oppens .
