Scarce is a Canadian Independent - horror film , which was implemented in 2008 by Jesse T. Cox and John Geddes.

Dustin, Trevor, and Owen go on a snowboard vacation in Colorado . After a night of partying, they make their way home and drive through Pennsylvania . In the thick snowstorm they lose their bearings and ask questions in a diner. The extremely unfriendly rednecks refer them to a “shortcut” that the three follow after a dispute with the waitress. After a short time the path is impassable and the car slams against a barrier. Dustin and Owen try to get help because Trevor is badly injured. After a strenuous march, they are picked up by Ivan, a survivor in this misanthropic wilderness. When they get back to the car, Trevor is gone. Ivan said Wade would certainly have helped Trevor and taken him in. So the two remaining spend the night with Ivan, who offers them homemade schnapps and hideous meat.
The next day the whole area is snowed in. While Owen tries to get reception with his cell phone, Dustin helps the mysterious hermit with his work. Both are later overpowered by Ivan and his bald-headed assistant Wade and locked in the basement of the house. There you can also find Trevor, whose back has already been cut open. They are fattened and tortured in the basement. The two hermits are cannibals who at some point tried human flesh in an emergency and never got away from it. For decades they have hunted travelers through and fed on them. They also have a deal with the "booby" (originally "The Slob") who buys fresh meat from them.
Trevor has to die first. The two chase him with a gun and then bleed him to death . The other two are exposed days later in their underwear and driven forward. While Dustin is caught again very quickly, Owen manages to defend himself with an icicle against his calf. He gets back to the car and finds Trevor's gun. When he arrives at Ivan's house, he surprises the booby, shoots him and frees Owen. Ivan returns from the hunt, but this time Owen is faster. He punctures Ivan with a musket . Now both flee from Wade, who after a short time manages to bring Owen down with a crossbow . Dustin arrives at the booby's house, where he finds more victims of the cruel trio in the basement. In the cellar the booby kept his sex slaves, whom he tortured with dildos . Just as Dustin tries to free two women who are still alive, he is overwhelmed by Wade.

The entire film was written in two weeks and shot after the possible locations were announced. The splatter effects were realized by a crew called "Gore Brothers", which was composed of horror film fans.
Most of the film was shot in a remote forest cabin in Ontario , Canada. The harshest winter in 30 years caused some problems on the set. Because of an actors' strike, some actors dropped out. However, the independent filmmakers succeeded in engaging actor Steve Warren. Further roles were quickly filled with friends, acquaintances and members of the crew. Outdoor shots took place in Colorado to present landscape shots of the Rocky Mountains .
The SPIO / JK in Germany was initially unable to give the producer recommendations for editing and refused to examine the film. A publication in Germany was therefore considered very unlikely. MIB released the film on March 13, 2009 in a German dubbed version, which is intended exclusively for distribution in Austria and Switzerland. On September 8th, 2009, the film was cut by 4 minutes and then released in German distribution with the highest possible approval, without any criminal liability . There is also an FSK-16 version published on August 9, 2013 as Frozen Blood , which has been shortened by 20 minutes.

Reviews
The film is a mix of Texas Chainsaw Massacre- branded Backwoods films and modern day torture films like Saw and Hostel . Scarce was also advertised with a tagline from Saw director Darren Lynn Bousman . The film received positive reviews on genre sites on the Internet.
"Like Sam Raimi 's early Super 8mm short film 'Within the Woods', Scarce is far from being a groundbreaking film; yet, because of the passion, dedication, and enthusiasm put into it, it will most likely be the stepping stone for the filmmakers that will lead them to a project that will make them household names in the horror genre. If you enjoyed Wrong Turn 2 , I highly recommend you check out this ambitious and gory film. "
