Burkhard Kling

Burkhard Kling (born August 1962 in Gelnhausen ) is a German art historian and director of the two museums Brothers Grimm House Steinau and Museum Steinau in Steinau an der Strasse in Hesse. He also works as a dramaturge.

Live and act

Burkhard Kling studied art history , modern history and older German literature at the University of Frankfurt am Main , with Ernst Erich Metzner among others . Since completing his Magister Artium (MA) degree, as an art historian, he has been working in particular on the art history of his home region of Main-Kinzig as well as on topics from the Brothers Grimm research. Kling published several non-fiction books and other publications.

In addition, Kling has been involved in the field of music theater for many years , primarily working as a dramaturge , but also taking on game management. Among other things, he worked for the Badisches Staatstheater in Karlsruhe , the Frankfurt Opera and the Hamburg University of Music and Theater , as well as for festivals in Heidenheim an der Brenz , Schwetzingen and Zwingenberg .

In 1996 he developed a concept for historical city ​​tours for the city of Gelnhausen , which became a lasting success.

In 1998, Kling the management of the osthessischen city Steinau together with the Brothers Grimm-Gesellschaft newly founded Museum Brothers Grimm House . It was set up in the former office building where the father of the Brothers Grimm, Philipp Wilhelm Grimm (1751–1796), had once worked as a Hanau bailiff and the Grimm family lived from 1791 to 1796.

The Steinauer Brothers Grimm House is now one of the largest and most important museums that deal with the Brothers Grimm , Jacob Grimm (1785–1863) and Wilhelm Grimm (1786–1859), and their work. In 2009, Kling redesigned and modernized the museum exhibition.

Events such as storytelling evenings as well as art and other special exhibitions take place in the museum at irregular intervals . Among other things, Kling succeeded in exhibiting the complete “Grimm Cycle” with 39 etchings by the well-known British artist David Hockney in the tenth anniversary year of 2008  .

In 2005 the Steinau Museum ... the Museum an der Straße was set up and opened directly across from the Amtshaus, in the former, now renovated and massively expanded Amtshof barn , for which Kling also took over the management. As a special museum, in addition to the city ​​and regional history , it primarily presents the topic of roads and travel as well as the development of the regional pottery trade , but also contains some exhibits and contributions to the Grimm family.

Kling is a member of the Scientific Council of the Brothers Grimm Society in Kassel.

Burkhard Kling lives in Gelnhausen.

Awards

The two Steinau museums, the Brothers Grimm House and Museum Steinau , managed by Kling, were awarded the 2008 Museum Prize by the Sparkassen-Kulturstiftung Hessen-Thüringen for “a particularly successful implementation of a museum concept” .

In 2011 he was awarded the Culture Prize of the Main-Kinzig-Kreis.
