action

In the reality show "The Ultimate Survivalist - The Apocalypse" six candidates are exposed in a remote forest in the US state of West Virginia to spend six days in the wild. As the star of the TV show, Kimberly Caldwell is said to be a candidate. On the way there, she is surprised in her car by a cannibal who jumps in front of her windshield when she was distracted by a phone call with her agent Tommy. In a panic, Kimberly tries to help him, but the apparently seriously injured accident victim is fully conscious and bites off Kimberly's lower lip and the skin over her chin. When Kimberly tries to get back to her car, another cannibal, called "Three Fingers" in the credits, stands in the way, which she splits in half with an ax, whereupon the halves of her body are dragged away by both of them. "Three Finger" is the surviving cannibal from the first part of the "Wrong Turn" series.

Since Kimberly does not arrive at the show in time, a replacement candidate has to be determined for her at short notice. The cameraman and director Michael "M" therefore persuades his girlfriend Mara, who is also the show's producer, to step in for Kimberly. The teams of two are drawn at a fireplace and the rules of the game are explained to them by Dale Murphy, the show host and former US Marine Colonel. There are small mines set up everywhere in the forest, which emit a beep when triggered - then you have a certain amount of time to complete a task. The draw shows that Jonesy with Amber, Elena with Jake and Mara with Nina each form a team of two.

Neal, a member of the film crew, is surprised from behind when "Three Finger" exits and his throat is cut. In addition, "Three Finger" scalps him. The whole thing can be seen on a screen in the outside broadcast van.

At the beginning of the show, “M” accompanies Elena and Jake as cameraman. He tries to create a sexual tension between the two, but Jake does not respond. Thereupon Elena seduces "M", but they are observed by "M" s friend Mara. Disappointed, Mara turns away and misses the fact that "M" moves away from Elena shortly afterwards. Elena then sunbathes in her underwear and becomes a victim of the cannibals. Elena is killed by a jealous mutant who had recently watched her brother masturbate when he saw the oral sex between Elena and "M".

Dale, who is on a quad bike in the forest, is shot through the tires with arrows by "Pa", the father of cannibals. He managed to escape, but a short time later he was knocked down by Pa and woke up hanging upside down in front of the hut of "Three Finger". There he sees how the cannibal with the scalp of Neal on the head is about to eviscerate his body.

On their way, Mara and Nina discover a hut in which they want to look for a phone in order to make a short phone call, contrary to the rules of the game. There you will find photos of disfigured children and their parents. A sudden noise makes her run to the door. From there, they watch as one of the disfigured women gives birth to an even more disfigured baby. Immediately afterwards the two are discovered and have to flee. Nina is able to hide, but Mara is killed and her body is tied to the hood of the cannibal's pickup truck.

Meanwhile, Amber and Jonesy find a fire pit with a roast over the fire. When Jake also arrives at the fireplace, the three start to eat the meat when Nina comes running in panic and tells them about the cannibals. The others react in disbelief, but then discover Kimberly Caldwell's tattoo on the roast . They quickly made the decision to go back to the starting point, where the production truck should be. However, they are horrified to discover that he has already been driven away.

Dale sees the cannibals take Mara to the hut and tries to help her. He manages to free her, but then finds out that she is dead. On his escape, he passes the hut where the mutant baby was previously born. With the weapon that he took from "Three Fingers", he threatens the old man who turns out to be the gas station owner from the first part and at the same time the father of the mutants. To stop Dale from killing his children, the old man pounces on him. Dale kills him with a stick of dynamite .

The four candidates decide to run to the old paper mill and come across a cannibal who appears to be raping a woman who looks like Elena. When the woman, who is actually the husband's sister, tears Elena's scalp and forehead from her face, Nina screams and runs away in panic. Jonesy is injured by one of the cannibals but is able to escape with the others. Nina falls into a trap and falls into a pit. Jake hears her screams, walks over to her and can help her get out of the pit. Jonesy and Amber lead the way and also get caught in a cannibal trap. Hanging upside down from a tree, the two are killed with an arrow in the head.

Nina and Jake finally get to the paper mill and find a mummified woman in a safe, who is holding a mummified child in her arms. As they continue to look around, they find many cars, including their truck, in a warehouse. From the truck you can hear "M" screams of pain. Jake enters the truck, but discovers that "M" is screaming from a video of his head being chopped off.

Nina is captured by the cannibals, and Jake is knocked out shortly afterwards . When the two come to, they find themselves trapped in the living room of the cannibal family, who apparently live in the factory. Nina is initially locked in a cage and later tied to a chair with barbed wire at her wrists. Jake is tied with his arms to a ceiling pillar and has to watch, among other things, as one of the cannibal children stuffs the food into the mouth, which was prepared by the mother from "M" s corpse.

In the meantime, Dale was also able to find his way to the former paper mill, where he tries to save the two. He sets a trap for the cannibal family and blows up their children with a dynamite arrow. When Nina and Dale are alone in the room, he frees them before the cannibal parents return, who then pierce him with arrows and cut his throat with a chain. Nina gets outside, but when she hears Jake's screams, who are supposed to be pushed into a chopper by the cannibal father , she storms back in and saves Jake. With the help of a tree trunk hanging from the ceiling, the two manage to push the family's parents into the chopper. The two then drive off in Kimberly Caldwell's red Ford Mustang. At the end of the film you can see the two blood-smeared Hawaiian shirts of the other two crew members Wojo and Chris, who were only seen at the beginning of the film, hanging on a clothesline, and how "Three Finger" gives the newborn baby Mara's fingers as a pacifier .

Reviews

The lexicon of the international film judges: "Extremely harsh horror thriller, which is at its best in the various atrocities without ever seriously aiming for the media criticism inherent in the story."

Dreadcentral rates the film 3½ out of 5. Weak dialogues, (a) bad actors and obvious mistakes in the plot are criticized. The film is nothing new and does not contain anything that has not already been seen, but it makes it much better and more entertaining than many role models and comparable genre pieces.
