Bear McCreary
Bear McCreary (born February 17, 1979 in Fort Lauderdale , Florida ) is a composer and musician ( accordion and piano ). He gained international fame through his soundtracks to the television series Battlestar Galactica and The Walking Dead .
Life
Bear McCreary studied composition and recording arts at the USC Thornton School of Music. During his studies he reconstructed the film music for Kings of the Sun together with the original composer Elmer Bernstein . Missing parts were re-recorded so that a soundtrack could be published for the first time in forty years.
From 1998 to 2005 he composed the score for several short films. In August 2010 he married the singer Raya Yarbrough , with whom he worked on the soundtrack for Battlestar Galactica .
His brother Brendan McCreary, also a musician, is part of the band Young Beautiful in a Hurry .
Battlestar Galactica
Bear McCreary wrote the score for the mini-series Battlestar Galactica together with composer Richard Gibbs . McCreary composed the film music for the 75 episodes of the television series Battlestar Galactica alone. Five soundtrack albums have been released to date, four albums as a soundtrack to the series and one album with the score for the Battlestar Galactica films Razor and The Plan . McCreary also wrote the soundtrack for the Battlestar Galactica prequel Caprica and the web series Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome .
More work
McCreary wrote the music for the television series Eureka , Terminator: SCC , Human Target and The Cape . He has also composed the music for several direct-to-video productions such as Rest Stop 1 , Rest Stop: Don't Look Back , Wrong Turn 2: Dead End and for the video game Dark Void . He also dubbed the films Step Up 3D , Europa Report and Godzilla II: King of the Monsters . On June 14, 2019, he released a video with his theme song from the soundtrack of Lars Klevberg's Child's Play , a remake of Chucky .
McCreary also composed music for Outlander , The Walking Dead , Da Vinci's Demons , Defiance , Holliston and Marvel's Agents of SHIELD , as well as for the video game SOCOM: Special Forces .
