Defiance ( Engl. ;, Despite ',' challenge ') is an American science fiction - television series made by Universal Cable Productions for the US channel Syfy was produced. Parallel to the series there is an online game of the same name, a massive multiplayer online third-person shooter with an open game world. The plot of the series and the game should complement each other. The first broadcast in the United States took place on April 15, 2013 on Syfy, while the German-language broadcast began a day later on the German Syfy branch . Production of the series was discontinued after the 3rd season.

action

In the near future, a year-long interstellar war between different alien races and humanity has forever changed the appearance of Earth as we know it. The survivors on both sides are slowly beginning to recover from the devastating consequences. The mysterious Nolan wanders through devastated, hostile landscapes. Fate leads him to St. Louis , which he does not recognize at first. Except for the gateway archway , his former home was completely destroyed and a new city was built on its ruins. Defiance is a haven for aliens and humans alike, who now have to learn to live next to and with one another - anything but an easy undertaking. So it is up to Mayor Amanda to keep the still young peace and order in Defiance. She is determined to do everything to help the city and its residents rebuild and at the same time protect them from external threats.

In the USA, the first season was broadcast from April 15 to July 8, 2013 on the cable channel Syfy . After just four episodes broadcast, the station extended the series at the beginning of May 2013 by a second season with 13 episodes. These were broadcast from June 19 to August 28, 2014. The third season was broadcast from June 12, 2015 to August 28, 2015.

Germany

In pay TV , the first season of the series was broadcast between April 16 and July 9, 2013 on the German channel Syfy . The second season began broadcasting on June 20, 2014 on Syfy. For the second season finale, a double episode was shown on September 5, 2014. The third season started on June 16, 2015 and ended on September 1, 2015.

From October 2, 2014, Tele 5 will broadcast the series as a free TV premiere, starting with season 1. After only four episodes, the series was discontinued for an indefinite period due to poor audience ratings. From August 3, 2015, the broadcast was resumed and the series was broadcast in the afternoon (cut) and night program (uncut).

“It will be interesting to see whether Defiance will in the future be more oriented towards a political series like Battlestar Galactica or maybe more in the direction of somewhat trashy space opera with soap elements. Both could find its fans, although fans of serious sci-fi entertainment will certainly still hope for an increase after the somewhat mixed pilot.
