action

The action starts immediately on the day that part one ends. Student Ryan wakes up in his car Tuesday, September 19. When he returns to his room, he meets his roommate Carter and his girlfriend Tree. With his fellow students Samar and Dre, he resumes work on an experimental quantum reactor. After Bronson, the school's dean, shuts down the project because of multiple power outages, Ryan is murdered by someone disguised as Babyface and wakes up on Tuesday the 19th. Tree explains how she experienced Monday the 18th, and she and Carter agree to help Ryan. You learn that the reactor was responsible for the loop. The new baby face tracks down Ryan, but Tree exposes him to reveal another Ryan. The second Ryan warns that the original will have to die for the loop to close. Startled, Ryan activates the reactor and releases a powerful pulse of energy that knocks everyone out.

Tree wakes up in Carter's room on Monday the 18th and relives her original time warp with certain differences: Lori is not the Babyface killer, and Carter is now with Danielle. Ryan suspects that the Reaktor caused Tree to drift into another dimension. When Tree learns that her mother is still alive in this new reality, she decides to stay.

That night, Tree goes to the hospital to intercept serial killer John Tombs before escaping, but is confronted by a police officer. Babyface kills the policeman and Tree runs into Lori, who tells her that Babyface can't be Tombs because she just got him for surgery. Babyface stabs Lori and chases Tree up to the roof, where she accidentally falls to her death. She wakes up at the beginning of her loop and asks Ryan and his team to help her escape, testing dozens of algorithms. At Carter's suggestion, Tree now acts as the group's memory aid and kills himself at the end of each day so they can start over. Eventually she succumbs to her injuries and faints. When Tree comes to in the hospital, she steals a gun to look for Tombs and finds Lori already dead. Babyface attacks and Tree shoots him. However, a second Babyface appears, forcing Tree to kill herself and Babyface.

The group eventually discovers the correct algorithm, but a technical problem forces a delay. Given the choice of which reality she wants to be in when both time loops close, Tree chooses to stay in the current dimension. Carter urges Tree to consider the consequences of a life that is not truly hers, stating that her experience with grief helped shape the person she is now. She hides from Babyface in a hotel. That night, the news reported that Carter was murdered while trying to save Lori in the hospital. Tree kills herself and deactivates the reactor so she can save Carter and Lori. The loop will restart and Tree decides to return to her own reality. She advises Lori to stop her affair with her professor Dr. Quitting Butler discovers that Danielle Carter is cheating and has one final conversation with her mother.

Bronson confiscates the reactor before the group can activate it. Tree believes she is too weak to survive another loop and insists on stealing the device back. The group assigns Danielle to distract Bronson while they retrieved the reactor. While Ryan prepares the device, Tree goes to the hospital to rescue Lori from Tombs, but is caught by the second Babyface - Dr. Butler trying to bury evidence of his affair with Lori. Dr. Butler's wife Stephanie appears and shoots Lori, revealing that she is allied with her husband, before he betrays and shoots her as well. Tree outwits Butler and kills him. Lori survives, and Tree and Carter kiss while the reactor is activated, and Tree is sent back to her original dimension on Tuesday the 19th.

Tree, Carter, Ryan, Samar and Dre are taken to a DARPA laboratory, where the reactor has been relocated for further experiments. Tree says she knows the perfect test subject. In her bedroom, Danielle wakes up in horror.

production

Director Christopher B. Landon has discussed the possibility of a sequel that focuses on why Tree got caught in a time warp. Jessica Rothe said that while most horror movie sequels are remodeling the original, Landon's sequel instead “sets itself apart from the horror movie and tends to point more in the direction of Back to the Future , also because we jump right in where we left off, many things that had no explanation in the first part are revealed in the second and that makes it a lot better. "

On May 1, 2018, Blumhouse Productions announced that Landon would direct the film again, with Rothe and Israel Broussard re- playing their roles, while Suraj Sharma and Sarah Yarkin are joining the cast. The next day it was announced that Ruby Modine would play her role again.

Principal photography for the film began on March 14, 2018 in New Orleans , Louisiana.

Publication and Revenue

The film had a budget of around $ 9 million (about twice as much as Part One) and, at just under $ 65 million, only made about half as much as its predecessor.

The film was released on February 13, 2019.
