Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is an American television series based on the first two films in the Terminator series: Terminator and Terminator 2 - Judgment Day and continues the story of Sarah Connor and her son John, the future leader of the resistance movement . The actions of the third ( Terminator 3 - Rebellion of the Machines ), fourth ( Terminator: Redemption ) and the fifth film ( Terminator: Genisys ) do not matter.

Due to the relatively low ratings in the US, Fox officially withdrew the series after two seasons in May 2009.

action

Sarah Connor and her son John try to lead a normal life under a false name in 1999 after they destroyed the computer company Cyberdyne (in the second movie) and thus believe that they have averted Judgment Day. In doing so, they not only have to be on their guard against the authorities who are persecuting them as terrorists, but also against other machine creatures from the future.

Despite a change of location, a T-888 terminator named Cromartie finds John and tries to kill him in his new school. John's classmate Cameron Phillips also turns out to be a Terminator model, who, however, has the task of protecting John. They manage to escape the T-888. Together with Sarah you lock yourself in the vault of a bank, in which a time machine was kept as an escape route.

Arrived in 2007, the three try, together with John's uncle Derek Reese , who has arrived from the future , to prevent the machines from seizing power through the Skynet computer network in order to avert the expected Judgment Day . The FBI -Agent James Ellison and Sarah's former fiancé , Charley Dixon attention despite the time jump to the three. The T-888 ( Triple Eight ) also continues the pursuit.

Actors and roles

The Terminator: SCC cast Shirley Manson , Richard T. Jones , Leven Rambin , Thomas Dekker , Summer Glau and Brian Austin Green (from right; 2008)
  • Lena Headey as Sarah Connor : Sarah is one of the main characters in the Terminator series. She is the mother of John Connor who will be the leader of the resistance movement in the future. She is wanted by the authorities as a mentally ill fugitive. - Series creator Josh Friedman watched over 300 actresses for the role. He was looking for one that "embodies the spirit of the role and comes across as believable, and not just a Hollywood star". After a friend recommended English actress Lena Headey for the role, Friedman watched her sample video and thought she was a very tough woman. Headey was concerned about whether she could capture the icon Linda Hamilton from the Terminator films in that series. She said Linda Hamilton will always be the original Sarah Connor and it is very unfortunate that she is not there. She expressed concern about whether the audience would adopt her as Sarah Connor. Headey's Sarah Connor has beencriticized fornot being as muscular as Linda Hamilton in " T2 ".
  • Thomas Dekker as John Connor : John is Sarah's son and the future leader of the resistance movement against Skynet. The character was 15 years old when the series started and finished 16 in the season one finale. During the series, John struggles with his feelings for Cameron, who is a Terminator. - Dekker wasn't cast until Headey was sure to play Sarah Connor. His manager threatened to remove him from his role as Zach on NBC's Heroes series, as the series' writers initially planned to have him portray a homosexual. A homosexual role could reduce Fox's interest in Dekker. Commenting on the Terminator films, Dekker said, “These were my favorite films when I was younger. It's so ironic that I'm doing this now. ”Dekker describes his role as“ the sequel to Eddie Furlong's role ”but“ darker and more adult ”.
  • Summer Glau as Cameron Phillips : Cameron is a Terminator who was sent back from the year 2027 by General John Connor to protect the younger self. The model and the exact capabilities are unknown. However, she has greatly improved human facial expressions compared to the T-800 model. It is also the first terminator that can eat food like humans. This ability was seen in the pilot as well as in the episode "The Hand of God". As the series progresses, it is revealed that Cameron is a stolen identity from resistance fighter Allison Young . - Glau hadn't seen any of the Terminator films beforeshe was cast as Cameron Phillips. Friedman wanted Glau first for a pilot film, which he planned four years before Terminator: SCC , but she was already committed to Serenity - Escape to New Worlds . Glau almost didn't audition for the role because of her prejudices about Cameron's character and believed that she didn't have that certain "Terminator look". While playing the role of Cameron, Glau said she was "intimidated" by the role because it was a challenge for her to find the balance between human and machine characteristics.
  • Richard T. Jones as James Ellison : Ellison is an FBI special agent looking for Sarah Connor. At first amused by Sarah's hair-raising story, he later finds inexplicable evidence of the existence of Terminators, including Cromartie's body. Ultimately, he realizes the whole truth. In the second season he works for Catherine Weaver, the boss of the high-tech company ZeiraCorp . - Jones describes his role as a "man of faith". He is even allowed to improvise a few lines of his role to give the series a little comedy to loosen up.
  • Garret Dillahunt as Cromartie : Cromartie is a Model T-888 Terminator who was sent back from the future to kill John Connor. Owain Yeoman played therole in the pilot. He suffered severe damage to his biological shell, so that only his metallic endoskeleton remained. After he came up with a new biological shell in the episode The Turk , whichis modeled afterthe actor George Lazlo , he continued his hunt for John Connor. After chasing John and Riley to Mexico, Cromatie's chip was destroyed and his body buried in the desert. When John later wanted to get the body to destroy it for good, it was gone: Ellison saved this body for Catherine Weaver, who connects it to the artificial intelligence called Babylon and gives it the name John Henry . - Dillahunt is only a recurring character in the first season, in the second season he gets a permanent role as George Lazlo, Cromartie and John Henry.

Charisma

The series started on January 13, 2008 on Fox . According to information from filmstarts.de, the pilot film achieved record values in the USA . With 18.3 million viewers, this is the best start for a series on the station in the last eight years. The reasons mentioned include weakened competition due to the scriptwriters' strike at the time and the previous broadcast of a football game with high ratings. The odds of the following episodes sank significantly, so that after a short time only less than half of the viewers tuned in to the starting episode. Although the ratings continued to fall in the second season, the season was expanded to a full 22 episodes.

In German television, the first season of the series was initially broadcast on the pay-TV channel Premiere . It was on free TV from January 12 to March 9, 2009 on ProSieben . Season 2 aired from September 2009 to November 2009 on Sky Cinema Hits. It ran on free TV for the first time on February 11, 2014 on ProSieben Maxx .

ProSieben moved the broadcast of the series to the night program after the first six episodes of the first season, as the audience ratings fell short of the station's expectations.

ProSieben decided to only use the original title in an abbreviated form in order to avoid confusion with the singer Sarah Connor , about whom the broadcaster broadcast several documentary soaps. At Premiere, where the series was previously shown, the series ran under its original US title (only the preceding article "The" was omitted).
