Scarlett Hooft Graafland

Scarlett Hooft Graafland (* 1973 ) is a Dutch photographer and performance artist .

Life

Scarlett Hooft Graafland studied from 1995 to 1999 at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague . From 1999 to 2000 she took part in the postgraduate program at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem . She then graduated from the Parsons School of Design in New York . Scarlett Hooft Graafland travels to many countries for her work and stages her works on site. In doing so, it involves the local population. Mostly she uses the rough natural landscape, for example the salt deserts of Bolivia, rural China or the Canadian and Finnish Arctic as a backdrop for her surrealistic productions. The artist takes analogue photographs and does not manipulate her images digitally. Scarlett Hooft Graafland's pictures can be seen in international group and solo exhibitions, including the Rencontres d'Arles , the World Expo in Shanghai , the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art (MOCCA Museum) in Toronto , the Huis Marseille Museum for Photography in Amsterdam , Museum of Photography in Seoul and exhibited in the Fotografiska in Stockholm . Her work will be shown in the Dutch pavilion at the World Expo 2020 in Dubai.

The artist lives in Amsterdam.
