The Schöllihorn ( 3500 m above sea level ) is a relatively easy to reach panoramic mountain in the Valais Alps on the west side of the Mattertal above Herbriggen . It is clearly dominated by its neighboring peaks in the ridge, in particular by the Brunegghorn ( 3833 m ) lying 1½ kilometers to the southwest , from which it is separated by the Bruneggjoch ( 3365 m ). In the further course of the ridge north of the Schöllihorn are the Barrhörner , separated by the Schöllijoch ( 3343 m ).
The plateau-like summit sends a distinctive ridge south to the Bruneggjoch, as well as ridges to the northwest and northeast, which start at the northern pre-summit ( 3473 m ). The northwest ridge ends at the Schöllijoch, where the ridge turns north to the Barrhörner. The western flank of the Schöllihorn is only moderately inclined, whereas the mountain slopes steeply to the southeast and northeast. To the north of the mountain is the Schölligletscher , to the east is the Abberggletscher . The Brunegg Glacier flows southwest of the mountain and has its origin in the western flank of the Brunegghorn.
Routes
The normal route leads over trail tracks from the Schöllijoch through the northwestern flank. The summit can be reached from the yoke in around 30 minutes. The Schöllijoch can be reached from the Turtmannhütte via the marked hiking trail to the Barrhörner in 2½ hours. Alternatively, the Schöllijoch can also be reached from the Topalihütte in 2 hours. However, the Schölligletscher has to be crossed, and the final, approximately 80-meter-high steep slope to the yoke can be problematic if it is iced up.
Alternatively, the Schöllihorn can also be reached in half an hour from Bruneggjoch via trail tracks. This variant is particularly appropriate when the Schöllihorn during a climb of Brunegghorns is mitbestiegen, then the Schöllihorn can be in the descent from the South to Schöllijoch in northwest exceeded be.
