Location of Schönblick in Brandenburg

The Paddenpfuhl from Schönblick

The district of Schönblick is a district of the municipality of Woltersdorf an der Schleuse that was created in 1903 as a country house and garden settlement .

Origin of name

The name Schönblick is said to go back to the Brandenburg poet Alexis Claude. In 1907 he wrote the following festive poem:

"The new home, so fresh and daring,

In the evergreen frame,

Needs like the young beautiful bride,

Also a new name.

And because the look is so beautiful

On forest and field and distant heights,

Did it go without saying

That 'Schönblick' we called it. "

The name "Schönblick" refers to the district that emerged in 1903 in the west of the village on the Großer Feld. Due to the continued growth of the community of Woltersdorf to this day, the previously clearly defined term is somewhat blurred. Today, “Schönblick” can in a broad sense mean the entire development of Woltersdorf west of Birkenweg, as well as Vogelsdorfer Strasse and south of Karl-Holzfäller-Strasse.

Streets

Schönblick is crossed from east to west by the historical route to Schöneiche. At today's Berliner Platz, the path to Schönebeck leads north-west from here. Along this street, 12 cross streets were to be built evenly spaced. To the south of Berliner Strasse, Mittelstrasse runs in Schönblick-Ost and Heinrich Heine Strasse runs in Schönblick-West . To the north of Berliner Strasse, Baltzerstrasse runs parallel to it in Schönblick-Ost. To the north is the road to An den Fuchsbergen Schönblick and to the south the Köpenicker and Waldstraße. In the far west, Ahornallee is the last cross street. Together with Fontanestrasse and Lessingstrasse, it forms a triangle in which there are still some streets.

"East-West" division

Schönblick was already divided when it was founded, as not all farmers gave up their fields for parceling. Today the demos settlement stands on these fields, which are differentiated from Schönblick in their design and street layout.

"Schönblick-Ost" and "Schönblick-West" have been used for more precise location determination since the beginning. Numerous companies used this location information. Schönblick-West forms the first two of the eight electoral districts of the municipality of Woltersdorf and usually has the highest voter turnout in town.

history

Farming land becomes building land

In 1902 most of the arable land in the large field was bought by the life reformer Bruno Wilhelmi. He had already helped found the "Eden" fruit growing settlement in Oranienburg . Wilhelmi wanted to create a garden city settlement in Woltersdorf. He parceled acquired arable land into plots of around 1000 m 2 , so that each land had a garden large enough for self-sufficiency was. In the early days, the properties were sold almost exclusively by Bruno Wilhelmi, in Schönblick-West some properties were also brokered by the businessman Heinrich Polte. On May 4, 1903, the term "Schönblick" was used for the first time in the municipal council. For the establishment of the Schönblick villa area, the municipal council demanded: "[...] that the road from the village to the terrain to be developed, as well as the roads on this area intended for development, are initially provisionally paved with limestone gravel and chausse stone chute, [...] “On April 4, 1904, 28 parcel owners founded the“ Landowner Association Schönblick eV ”. This association represented the settlement community in the community and shaped the district. So the paving or at least regulation of all streets in the district was organized and the municipality was convinced not to issue building permits only after the road had been built, but to place a paving mortgage in the land register for the plots without a paved road . In addition, the planting of street trees in almost all streets was encouraged. The association has also been campaigning for the creation of a waterworks in Woltersdorf since its first meeting , which means that from 1909 there was running water in the old village and in Schönblick. There was also an "aesthetic building inspection", the owners were advised on gardening issues and there were big celebrations. A particular concern of the landowner association was to improve the connection to Berlin. Until Schönblick was founded, all roads led to Erkner station . Due to the location of Schönblick, however, the Wilhelmshagen station was more likely to be a connection point. A pedestrian path through the Köpenicker forest and a tunnel to the platform were created, for which the landowners' association paid the costs. The tunnel was completed on June 1st, the footpath on July 5th, 1908.

From tram to expansion

Fasanenstrasse stop

In the first few years after the founding, Woltersdorf considered building a tram in the village. Many in Schönblick campaigned for a route to Rahnsdorf station, as this would also make the new district well connected to the new route. The businessman Heinrich Polte advertised particularly vehemently. There were numerous considerations to let the route turn further north in order to connect the Schöneich districts of Grätzwalde and Fichtenau. The initially uncertain financing was secured by the Schönblicker Gustav Janke, who secured more than half of the municipality's share of the tram financing by depositing 60,000 Reichsmarks. He also spoke out in favor of the shortest route. On May 17, 1913, the Woltersdorf tram began operating from Woltersdorf-Schleuse to Rahnsdorf station . At that time there were two stops in Schönblick. One on Fasanenstrasse, one on Lerchenstrasse.

As a result of the First World War and the subsequent recession, there were also numerous changes in Schönblick. A few beautiful eyes had also fallen. Due to the hyperinflation of 1923 , the pavement mortgages could no longer finance road construction.

In 1926 two new areas were opened up around Schönblick. The first was west of the oak dam. This area was originally forested, but was cut down and turned into arable land in 1860/62. In 1904 Albert Mörner acquired this triangular area. The tram already ran through the site and in 1924 the parcelling began and in 1926 the municipality approved a development plan. Another cross street called Rotdornallee was created, the remaining streets ran around or towards the Paddenpfuhl. These were named after German poets in 1932 . There was a corruption scandal around the 16-family house on Berliner Strasse, which was built over the next two years. The second area was the Fuchsberge north of Schönblick. They were the last large forest area in Woltersdorf and were cut down in 1922 by the then owner, a subsidiary of Disconto-Gesellschaft . Wilhelmi had already proposed development plans in 1909 and 1920, but these were rejected. In 1926, the municipality finally approved development. In 1932 the streets were named after Swiss motifs, but only a few of them are still called that today. On December 12, 1926, the “settlement interest group Schönblick und Umgegend eV” was founded.

After the election for the municipal council on November 17, 1929, four of the 15 members of parliament from Schönblick lived.

A district in the "Third Reich" and in "Real Socialism"

The Woltersdorf section of the NSDAP was founded on May 8, 1939 in the Seidler restaurant in Schönblick, and four of the seven founding members came from Schönblick. In 1939 the local group Woltersdorf was divided into the local groups Woltersdorf-Schleuse and Woltersdorf-Schönblick . In the “Woltersdorf Communist Trial” in May 1933, 3 of the 22 defendants came from Schönblick.

In the GDR, the electrical installation workshop founded in 1923 by Johann Smolinsky grew into a workshop for repairing electric motors and armature winding, or WEA for short. This was merged with the electrical company Graf and others to form a PGH in 1958 and converted into a VEB in 1972. This company in the south of Ost-Schönblick, which was between Fasanenstrasse and Puschkinallee, had up to 250 employees.

Todays situation

The demarcation of Schönblick is relatively difficult today because the settlement areas have grown together. The term appears today mainly in the form of a restaurant in the western part.

Famous residents

Fidus' house on Köpenicker Strasse

At the beginning of the settlement, numerous artists and musicians lived, especially in Ostschönblick. The artist Hugo Höppner-Fidus lived at Köpenicker Straße 46 until his death . Gertrud Prellwitz also lives in the same house . The composer Arno Rentsch lived right next to it at number 45 . The Berlin music director Otto Hutschenreuter lived at Fasanenstrasse 42 .

During the Nazi era, the resistance fighter Cornelius Hubers , who was a member of the resistance group around Alfred Oswalt , lived at Staaballee 27 for a few months . In addition, the printer's owner Theodor Görner lived for a few years at Ahornallee 24. He hid Jews in his company or with confidants. 19 of them were able to survive the Holocaust , which is why he is honored with a tree today in the " Alley of the Righteous Among the Nations " by Yad Vashem .

The Berlin cellist Hans-Joachim Scheitzbach has lived in Schönblick since the 1960s
